In a year of record entries into the NABERS Sustainable Portfolios Index (SPI), Parramatta Square topped the list of Office Energy ratings with 5.8 stars. In total, the SPI measured 414 commercial assets, equating to 7.4 million square metres and 24% of Australia’s total office market.

Sustainability and ESG are now key decision-making metrics for Australian companies looking for office space, and the NABERS SPI has become a critical tool for landlords to attract and retain the best tenants in a competitive commercial market.

Walker Head of Sustainability & Engineering Cameron Forbes said the company is extremely proud to be recognised by NABERS as the country’s most energy-efficient commercial portfolio.

“Parramatta has come out on top and this is a great win for all of Western Sydney to be leading Australia’s commercial sustainability rankings”

“Lang Walker always set the benchmark high for our team to ensure Parramatta Square reflects an ongoing commitment to creating environmentally and socially sustainable solutions backed by marketing-leading technology for the long-term benefit of our tenants, communities and the thousands of workers commuting here every day.”

“This is also a major win for Walker tenants who share our commitment to ESG and sustainability excellence and they can be proud they are working from the country’s most energy-efficient towers knowing they are benefiting from significant cost savings over time.”

NABERS Head of Market Development Magali Wardle commended Walker for its ongoing commitment to sustainability excellence.

“This is an outstanding performance from Walker to top the NABERS Sustainable Portfolio Office Index with Parramatta Square which has raised the benchmark for sustainability in Western Sydney,” Mrs Wardle said.

“We know data is the cornerstone of better decision-making. Investors, financial institutions and governments use the NABERS SPI to compare the performance of assets with their peers. This transparency is driving market transformation and shows Western Sydney is leading the way.”

Collins Square by Walker in Melbourne also tied for third place in the NABERS SPI and was ranked second in the Indoor Environment rankings.

Now in its sixth year, the NABERS SPI is Australia’s only publicly available source of information on sustainability performance, ranking portfolios of building assets according to their NABERS ratings for energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste management and indoor environment quality.

NABERS is a national independent rating system that measures the environmental performance of Australian buildings and tenancies. A NABERS Indoor Environment (IE) rating measures the indoor air quality, temperature and thermal comfort as well as the acoustic quality of a building.
